Proverbs 1: 8-9 A Father’s Exhortation: Acquire Wisdom

Hi all,

Sorry for the long wait, but I was away on holiday…

We focus on the following scripture:

Proverbs 1:8-9 A Father’s Exhortation: Acquire Wisdom (NLT)

⁸ My child, listen when your father corrects you.
Don’t neglect your mother’s instruction.
⁹ What you learn from them will crown you with grace
and be a chain of honor around your neck.

Our parents always give us advice on what to do, warn us about things that are dangerous etc, don’t they? And what do/did we do? We just think that we know better and that they don’t know what they’re talking about… Well, through the years I’ve noticed that they weren’t far from right at all, many of the things they gave me advice about or tried teaching me turned out to be spot on.  That’s why the Bible says that wisdom comes with age….

Job 32:7 (NLT)

I thought, ‘Those who are older should speak,

for wisdom comes with age.’

We all grow older every year, and wouldn’t you want younger people to listen to your wisdom? I’ve noticed this, that even when I want to give people advice, they throw it off as if it doesn’t mean anything.  But in actual fact, I’ve been through the same trial, and I most definitely noticed the error… So obviously the person would benefit from the advice.

God helps us grow in Him every day, so that we can help out the people in need.  So whenever someone tries to give you some wisdom, don’t always brush it off as dust.  Try and understand what they are trying to tell you.  I’m not saying to listen to everyone, but you know who are the ones you can listen to…

This way we can really improve the world and make it a happier and better place, think of the possibilities if everyone takes advice from each other and practices it??
