Perceive God’s presence

September 10, 2013 Leave a comment

We need to perceive the presence of God in order to meet Him.  One cannot expect to be with God by just saying “I’m a christian” .  We need to seek God in His glory and greatness.  Religion alone wont get us where we want to be with God.  We must have chazag (Hebrew word in the bible), which means encourage, build up, strengthen etc.   If we do not build on our relationship with God we won’t encounter Him.  When we stop building, it means we stop before finishing the fort, and end up getting invaded.

2 King 4 :9 and 15-17 (NLT)

She said to her husband, “I am sure this man who stops in from time to time is a holy man of God. 10 Let’s build a small room for him on the roof and furnish it with a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp. Then he will have a place to stay whenever he comes by.”

15 “Call her back again,” Elisha told him. When the woman returned, Elisha said to her as she stood in the doorway, 16 “Next year at this time you will be holding a son in your arms!”

“No, my lord!” she cried. “O man of God, don’t deceive me and get my hopes up like that.”

17 But sure enough, the woman soon became pregnant. And at that time the following year she had a son, just as Elisha had said.

In verse 9, the woman  noticed something Holy in Elisha, and acted on it by making sure he has a place to rest when he passes by.

This activated God’s glory in her life. In verse 15-17, she was blessed by Elisha and got a son… (something she would have missed out on if she hadn’t invited him to rest there). She had tenacity…

If you read on further the boy dies, and she runs to Elisha to resurrect him.  He then sends his servant with his staff to touch the boy’s face in order to resurrect him, but nothing happens.  Only when Elisha came into contact with the boy did he wake up from the dead…  The reason for this is that Elisha had a close relationship with God and was walking with the anointing.  The servant wasn’t…

2 Kings 4 : 31-32 (NLT)

31 Gehazi hurried on ahead and laid the staff on the child’s face, but nothing happened. There was no sign of life. He returned to meet Elisha and told him, “The child is still dead.”

32 When Elisha arrived, the child was indeed dead, lying there on the prophet’s bed. 33 He went in alone and shut the door behind him and prayed to the Lord. 34 Then he lay down on the child’s body, placing his mouth on the child’s mouth, his eyes on the child’s eyes, and his hands on the child’s hands. And as he stretched out on him, the child’s body began to grow warm again! 35 Elisha got up, walked back and forth across the room once, and then stretched himself out again on the child. This time the boy sneezed seven times and opened his eyes!

How amazing?  This shows us that we need to stay close to God, and we will surely also be able to do miracles.

Exodus 3: 2-4 (NLT)

There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a blazing fire from the middle of a bush. Moses stared in amazement. Though the bush was engulfed in flames, it didn’t burn up. “This is amazing,” Moses said to himself. “Why isn’t that bush burning up? I must go see it.”

When the Lord saw Moses coming to take a closer look, God called to him from the middle of the bush, “Moses! Moses!”

If you read the above, God only revealed Himself when Moses showed interest in the burning bush.  Before that it just looked like a bush burning…  When he got closer, God spoke to him.

We need to be willing and show interest.  God loves all of us, no matter what, but for you to encounter God, you need to spend time with Him.

Develop a hunger for God.  Have tenacity. Have a drive within.
